Designing Beneficial Use into Dredging Remediation Projects Using Geotextile Tube Technology
Economic expansion in emerging countries is taking place at a rapid pace, requiring major infrastructure, environmental, and civil projects that support and reflect the countries position on the global stage. This paper will highlight a Brazilian project in the military sector, and shares the environmental, geotechnical, and economic challenges requiring environmental remediation utilizing innovative geotextile tube containment and dewatering technology.

Beneficial use of Dredged Sediments
Over the last decade, some very interesting projects have been executed in the Netherlands, all based on the idea to use dredged sediments in order to save on construction materials and, by doing so, on project cost. On a much larger scale in different parts of the world, the same working principles have helped justify the economic viability of this solution. This paper will showcase some of the works that were done and discuss which lessons have been learned.

Modeling Wave Conditions and Analysis for Coastal Design of Beach Restoration Incorporating Geotextile Tubes
Shore erosion is a serious problem that is present in many countries with coastal regions. These vulnerable coasts need to be protected to avoid beach retreat and property damage. Knowing how to design suitable coastal protection is important to help recover and stabilize a beach. This paper will present the wave modeling and analysis to design and evaluate performance of structures incorporating geotextile tubes in protecting and stabilizing a 500 meter stretch of Caribbean beach resort.

Geotextile Tubes as a Replacement for a Rockfill for the Polder Dyke in Saemangeum, South Korea
The 33.9 km long Saemangeum Sea Dike in South Korea links Gunsan in the north to Buan in the south. The polder dyke serves as a land reclamation dyke during the construction period and as a flood protection dyke for the longer term. The polder dyke consist of a sandfill core with a rock revetment for erosion protection on both sides of the dyke. As an alternative to the original design, geotextile tubes were used to replace the rockfill berms for the construction of the polder dyke. More the 26 km of TenCate Geotube® systems were applied in this project.

Sand Encapsulated Units for Beach Protection
In the south of France, a project has been executed with the use of sand encapsulated units, also known as TenCate Geotube® systems. Sand encapsulated units include Geotube, Geobag and Geocontainer units. These products are made of synthetic materials that contain sand or other locally available materials. These units reduce wave action on the beach and prevent beach erosion. These cost-effective solutions provide an aestheically pleasing alternative to traditional hard rock structures.
