Rapid population growth, industrialization, extreme deforestation at the lake catchment area, untreated wastewater and other runoff from surrounding areas had led to major pollution problems in Lake Dianchi.

A comprehensive environmental dredging program was implemented to remove the contaminated sediments from the lake with  Geotube® dewatering containers.
